Leila Myrtis Tew, a resident of Ozark, AL, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Ozark Health & Rehabilitation. She was 88 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. David Lewis officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.
Leila was born on March 11, 1934 in Blue Springs, AL to the late Bunyan Davie and Nancy Emmie Helms. She married Vernon Wayne Tew on October 6, 1951 in Clio, AL. Leila enjoyed family get-togethers, traveling, board and card games, sewing, quilting and needlepoint. She was also a great cook and baker; especially known for her delicious biscuits and pound cake. Leila was a member of Campground Baptist Church and sang in the choir. In her later years, she was a member of Ozark Baptist Church. Leila was a kind and generous lady who loved to help others.
In addition to her parents, Leila was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Wayne Tew; and siblings, Melvin Helms, Bennett Helms, Fred Helms, Travis Helms, Vela Zimmerman and Gladys Scott.
Survivors include her children, Donna (Chuck) Barnard, Susan (Ron) Beauchamp, Mickey Tew, Judith (Mike) Lewis and Richard (Aquila) Tew; grandchildren, Jason (Holly) Barnard, Jennifer (Kevin) Behymer and Benjamin Lewis; great grandchildren, Emma Hughes, Presley Behymer and Libby Hughes; brother, Harold (Shirley) Helms; step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers at Providence Home Assisted Living in Ozark, Wesley Place in Dothan and Ozark Health & Rehab. Special thank you to all in her life who went the extra mile, you know who you are. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dayspring Hospice in Enterprise, AL.
