Mr. Leonard Paul Hughes passed away March 31, 2019 at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation and Nursing Home at the age of 85.  He was born October 20, 1933 in Chipley, Florida the youngest child of James Cullen and Ethel Hollan Hughes. 


Leonard was a 1953 graduate of Geneva County High School in Hartford, Alabama.  He served as a PFC in the 8th Infantry “Golden Arrow” Division at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  In 1956, he married Sarah Myrle Sellers and they had a son, Johnny Paul Hughes. 


Leonard is predeceased by his wife, Sarah Sellers Hughes, son, Johnny Paul Hughes, MD, sister Anice (Doll) Hughes Henderson, brothers Bill Hughes and John Hughes.


Leonard will be missed by his special friend and longtime companion, Doris Faulk, of Geneva; daughter-in-law, Sarah Hughes, of Tampa, Fl; step daughters, Kimberly (David) Hunter of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Rebecca Weeks  of Wesley Chapel, Fl, step granddaughters Anastasia Weeks and Sarah Hunter.


He is also survived by a nephew, Thomas Ray Reynolds (Barbara) San Fransico, Ca., Michael Joiner, Ronnie (Joan) Joiner, Clay and Chris Joiner; Sister in law, Nan Hughes, Nieces Karen Blackwell and Debra Warren, Virginia. Cousin Sherry (Glen) Harrison of Hartford, Alabama.


Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 2pm at the Hartford City Cemetery with Reverend Demetrius Ford officiating and Bottoms Garden Chapel directing.


The family would like to thank the nursing staff on second hall of Wiregrass Rehabilitation and Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice especially nurses Ann Marie and Misty and Rev. Ford.
