Leonard Simmons, 71, of Dothan passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020.
He was born on September 3, 1948 in South Carolina the son of Curtis and Estella Teague Simmons. After high school Leonard served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he earned two associate degrees.
He married the love of his life Wanda Johnson. They lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina for 40 years until 1988, where they made the Wiregrass area their home.
He resided in Covington, Georgia where he served as a Deacon and was a member of East Newton Baptist Church. Leonard was employed with Michelin until his retirement in 2005. After retiring, he then returned to Dothan. He loved wood working and enjoyed making furniture for his family and friends.
Leonard was a dedicated and loving family man who adored his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish Leonard’s memories is his wife of 52 years Wanda “Sherry” Simmons; daughters Jennifer (Chris) Morris, Stacey (Tim) Williams, three grandchildren Levi Morris, Caleb Williams and Lauren Williams; two sisters Carolyn “Cookie” (Ronald) Wood, and Grace Sloan and several nieces and nephews including Wayne (Patsy) Brown.
The family will receive friends at their residence from 4pm until 6pm Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
