Leonard Thomas Steiner Sr., known affectionately as Len, passed away on November 3, 2024, after an extended illness. Born on December 2, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, Lynn lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions.
Len's journey began as the son of the late Leonard Arthur Steiner and Sally Stephanie Yanick Steiner. Len's thirst for knowledge led him to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he graduated with honors in BGS Business/Economics in 1970. His commitment to education continued at the University of West Florida, where he pursued his MBA, alongside numerous military courses that certified him as an accomplished Airforce serviceman.
The heart of Len's personal life was his beloved wife of 71 years, Mary Frances Johnson Steiner. The couple's enduring love story began on November 3, 1953, and together they built a family that included their sons, Leonard Thomas Steiner Jr. (Sally) of Madison, AL, Paul Richard Steiner (Teresa) of Ashford, AL, and the late David Paul Steiner. Len's legacy further extends to his grandchildren, Kelly Steiner and Max Steiner.
A decorated veteran, Len served his country with honor and distinction in the US Air Force for 21 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). His service took him to the stretches of Alaska and Greenland, earning him multiple commendations, including the USAF Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the National Defense Service Medal. His civilian career also included roles as a technical writer and software engineer with Siemens, Inc., and Lockheed Martin, from which he eventually retired.
Len's contributions to his community were immeasurable. A man of the Catholic faith, Len lived his faith through his actions, embodying the principles of honesty and love as a husband and father. His interesting life, intelligent mind, and passionate heart left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Leonard "Len" Steiner Sr.'s life was a tapestry of service, love, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a man who lived his life to the fullest, leaving behind a legacy of honor, dedication, and love.
