Mr. Lester J. Nichols, of Coffee Springs, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016. He was 67.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016, at El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Hingson, Rev. Don Tew, and Rev. Bill Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.
Lester was born October 25, 1948, in Houston County to Lydia (Jerri) Thames Nichols and the late Luther James Sanders Nichols. Before his retirement, he was a teacher and coach at both Daleville City and Dale County High Schools. He was a member of the Chancellor Masonic Lodge as well as a member of El Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margarett Childree Nichols of Coffee Springs; two children: Charlotte Nichols-Brown (Tim) of Tallahassee, FL and Shannon Nichols (Heather) of Enterprise; his mother, Lydia (Jerri) Thames Nichols of Coffee Springs; one sister, Linda Nichols Davis (Curtis) of Coffee Springs; five grandchildren: Madeline Brown; James, Andrea, Matthew, and Malorie Nichols; several nieces and nephews; other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Lester Nichols Endowed Scholarship to Troy University (https://donate.troy.edu/troy_ annual_giving), which will continue Coach Nichols’ legacy of education to students living in Dale County, AL, or El Bethel Baptist Building Fund, 9432 State Highway 27, Chancellor, AL 36316.
