Lewie Mack Ezell, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle after an extended illness. He was 85. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 18th, at 10 A.M. at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in the Rocky Head community in Dale County. Visitation will be Tuesday evening at Ward Wilson Funeral Home, October 17th, from 5 to 7 P.M.
Lewie was born January 20, 1932, in Dale County, AL, one of three children of Lewie Frank Ezell and Eunice Pearl Ziglar, and was a graduate of Ariton High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a 1958 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree, then later a Master’s of Agricultural Education Degree and Advanced Certificate in Vocational Education. Lewie was employed by the Houston County Board of Education from 1961 until his retirement, serving as a teacher of Vocational Agriculture first at Ashford High School then later at Rehobeth High School. Lewie became Director of Vocational Programs for the Houston County School System in 1977 and finally served as first Director of the Houston County Area Vocational Center in Ashford, AL. Lewie married Amy Carolyn Still, of Dothan, in June of 1961 and was active in Ridgecrest Baptist Church for more than thirty years, where he served as deacon and in various roles of teaching and service. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman and skilled in most any mechanical craft.
Lewie was predeceased by his parents Lewie Frank Ezell and Eunice Pearl Ziglar, and step-mother Clyde Clark of Rocky Head, AL. His siblings Kathleen Jacobs and Billy Jack Ezell also predeceased him.
Lewie is survived by his wife Carolyn of 56 years; a son, Bill Ezell and wife Dolly; granddaughter Amy Ezell; brother-in-law Kenneth Jacobs (Mary Ann); sisters-in-law Sarah Moorer (James) and Martha Still; three step-granddaughters and a step great-grandaughter; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Family will be accepting flowers.
