Mr. Lewis Douglas Mallory, 86, a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.


Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. prior to the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Bethel Christian Academy, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.


Mr. Lewis was born February 26, 1937, in Dale County to the late George Thomas & Lillie Mae (Bagwell) Mallory. He spent the early years of his life in Dale County and was a 1955 graduate of Midland City High School. Lewis proudly served 10 years in the National Guard. He opened Mallory Insurance Agency in 1980, up until his retirement in 2003. Throughout his career, he worked for companies such as Cotton States, Independent Life, and Liberty National. Lewis taught Sunday School at First Freewill Baptist and Bethel Baptist Church for 50+ years and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for the past 22 years. He was a past member of the Dothan Kiwanis Club.


He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Byron Mallory, Paul Mallory, and Joel Mallory; a granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Thigpen; father & mother-in-law, Ralph & Maudean Bell; brother-in-law, Ralph Douglas “Buddy” Bell.


He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emma Jean Bell Mallory of Dothan; two daughters, Kim Monk (Ken) of Dothan, and Janet Thigpen (Brian) of Cowarts; three grandchildren, Keith Monk (Jeanna) of Cowarts, Tyler Thigpen of Cowarts, Trevor Thigpen (Hadley) of Dothan; two great-grandchildren, Jamie Monk and Alex Monk both of Cowarts; two sisters-in-law, Zelmodean Mallory of Headland, and Annette Mallory Hall of Opp; and several nieces and nephews.


Serving active pallbearers will be Trevor Thigpen, Tyler Thigpen, Jamie Monk, Alex Monk, Danny Mallory, and Brad Bell.


Serving as honorary pallbearers, New Mercy Sunday School Class, Larry Austin, Jim & Geneva Conley, Charlie & Linda Hill, Mike & Penny Thomas, and Dr. Stanley & Gloria Outlaw.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Southern Care Hospice, and a special caregiver, Martha Whittle, for the care shown to their loved one during the last few months.
