Lillian Dozier Collins
Lillian Dozier Collins, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013 at Flowers Hospital. She was 97.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Covenant Hospice.
Mrs. Collins was born June 22, 1915 in Weeksville, NC. She worked as a bookkeeper in Elizabeth City and in Charlotte. In 1981, she retired and began traveling the United States for several years. She moved to Dothan in 2007 to be near family. Mrs. Collins was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her Dothan great grandchildren sometimes referred to her as ‘G.G.’ for “great granny.”
As a retired bookkeeper she loved to dance and joined various senior groups with her husband and together they learned new dance steps. She loved flowers and enjoyed occasional visits to Dothan Botanical Gardens. Mrs. Collins was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Collins is predeceased by her husband, Andrew Collins; a son, Glenn B. Collins; sisters, Bernice Dodge, Gladys Haavic, Mildred Perry; and a brother, Randolph Dozier.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Collins McNeely of Dothan; a sister, Eula Engelke of Kitty Hawk, NC; grandchildren, Laura Tamburin of Dothan, Patrick McNeely of Memphis, TN, Kim Robinson, Brantley Collins and Holly Shearouse, all of Camden, NC; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher and Meghan Tamburin of Dothan, Jesse Collins of Elizabeth City, NC, Mikayla and Caroline Robinson, Taylor Collins and Tanner Shearouse, all of Camden, NC.
