HEADLAND…Lillian Louise Cunningham Falkner, a resident of Headland, died Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016, at her home. She was 101.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 22, 2016 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 Friday in the Chapel of the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, AL. 36302 or to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL. 35236.
Mrs. Falkner was born and died on the family farm in Headland. She completed high school in Headland and attended what is now Auburn University majoring in Home Economics. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Headland, having taught G.A.’s during her younger years. She twice served as President of the Headland PTA and also as President of the local garden club. Mrs. Falkner loved listening to beautiful music, gardening, cooking and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Oron Falkner, her parents, Luther and Ethel Cunningham and a brother, Brandt Cunningham.
Surviving relatives include her sons, Stuart Falkner, Morris Falkner (Kathy), and a daughter, Cornelia King (Jimmy), all of Headland; her grandchildren, Kimberlin Moore (Jay), Knoxville, TN; Lisa Falkner, Loxley, AL; Joe Falkner (Kimberly), Headland; Kathleen Madison, Indian Head, S.C.; Kaira King (Michael Catenacci), Birmingham, AL; Keary King, (Ariadna), Dothan; Roxanna Selkirk, West Hills, CA; and Merritt Falkner, Headland. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Alicia Dorr, Waldorf, MD.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Benton Beasley, Mackey Sellers, Fred Cunningham, Jim Falkner, Jack Murphy, John R. Holman and Bud Mitchell.
Lillian was blessed with loving caregivers: Ruth Lawrence, Rebecca Murry, Carolyn Crews, Janet Kincey, Kimberly Roberts, and Brenda Williams.
