Lillian Simmons Cain, of Dothan, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016 after a short illness. She was 93.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Grandstaff and Rev. Stacy Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 423 E. Cottonwood Rd., Dothan, AL 36301.


Mrs. Cain was born May 15, 1923, in Clayhatchee to Silas and Hartie Simmons.  In 1948, she met the love of her life, Charles G. Cain of Enterprise. They married December 18, 1948. She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church for over 65 years. Mrs. Cain was employed for over 25 years as the Lunchroom Supervisor at Dothan High School and was known as a great cook. Lillian will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many.  She was a gracious Christian lady and will be missed by many.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Horace, James, Forrest and Alvin Simmons; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Cain.


Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Charles G. Cain of Dothan; sons, Glen F. Cain (Betty) and Stan M. Cain (Theresa), all of Dothan; grandchildren, Tina C. White (Richard) of Montgomery, Sarah C. Tyson of Dothan, Andrew C. Cain of Birmingham, Paige S. Whittle (Devin) of Montgomery, and Sandi S. Mims of Dothan; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Simmons (Hermenia) of Zaragoza, Spain; sister, Ophelia S. Oakely (Mike) of Dothan; sister-in-law, Lucile Cain of Enterprise; special niece, Mary Sue Cain of Enterprise; and numerous other dear nieces and nephews.


The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Extendicare for their loving care.


Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons.
