Linda Ann Brackin, 68, beloved daughter of the late William B. and Mary A. Brackin, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Thursday, Sept.22, 2016, after a courageous battle with dementia.


Funeral services for Linda will be held at 3 o’clock on Sunday, September 25, 2016, in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with her pastor, Jonathan Rodgers, officiating. Ward Wilson will direct the planned celebration of Linda’s life.


The family will receive family and friends one hour before the celebration service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that generous memorial donations in honor of Linda’s life be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302, or to the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, 110 Harmony Lane, Dothan, AL 36303.


Linda was born March 5, 1948, in New York City. She moved to Alabama when she was an infant. Linda was a 1966 graduate of Dothan High School and was employed with Dothan City Schools for 31 years before retiring. She served as secretary for four Dothan High principals. For two years, she assisted with the care of her paternal grandmother. After that, she was employed for 12 years as a guidance office clerk at Houston Academy. She retired from HA in 2010 to assist in the care of her mother.


Linda was a faithful member of Westgate Baptist Church, where she taught a young people’s Sunday school class for many years. She loved her Savior and her church family dearly.


In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ansley and Vassie Brackin; her maternal grandparents, William J. and Agnes Burns; four maternal aunts; five paternal aunts; and two maternal uncles.


Linda is survived by her brother, William B. Brackin Jr. (Brenda) of Tallassee; her sister, Elaine Brackin, of Dothan; four nephews: Scott (Cheryl) Brackin of Austin, Texas; Paul (Ly) Brackin of San Diego, California; Walt (Tamatha) Porter of Woodstock, Georgia; and Brian (Natalie) Porter of The Woodlands, Texas. She is also survived by five great-nieces, four great-nephews, four uncles and numerous cousins.


Linda’s family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, her special caregiver - Andrea Montgomery, and Dr. Leah McKnight-Haas for their compassionate care of their beloved sister.
