Linda “Deloris” Davidson Salter, age 77, of Daleville (Clayhatchee), AL, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Deloris was born on January 19, 1945, to John C. and Vassie L. Davidson in Dale County, AL.

In 1960, she met the love of her life, Randolph Salter and they were happily married for 52 years.  During those 52 years, she was a loving wife, mother and Nanny.  She served as Mayor of Clayhatchee for several years as well as Councilwoman.  She retired after more than 30 years as a bus driver for Daleville City Schools.  She was known for her hot dog chili that she made for many ball games at the ballpark in Clayhatchee.

Miss Deloris, as she was known to many, was a strong, Christian lady who loved her family and her community, and she loved the Lord.  When she was diagnosed with cancer 14 months ago, she never let the cancer break her faith and trust in the Lord.  She told her family, “it’s gonna be okay either way”.  She will certainly be missed by so many that knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Deese and Rev. Chad Hixson officiating.  Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: DaySpring Hospice, 1275 James Drive, Ste. A, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Mrs. Salter was preceded in death by her parents John and Vassie Davidson, husband Randolph Salter, sister Mary Williams and brother Billy Joe Davidson.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Salter Shellhouse, Daleville, AL; 3 granddaughters, Cindy Shellhouse, Dothan, AL, Donna Kilpatrick (Donovan), Dothan, AL; Amanda Shellhouse, Daleville, AL; 2 great-grandchildren, Kane Shellhouse and her “Sunshine” Adalynn Kilpatrick both of Dothan, AL.  She also leaves to cherish her memory her bonus family Tommy, Kaitlyn and Ryan Thorne as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
