Linda McGowan Bowdoin, age 80, passed peacefully at her home on March 8, 2023 after a short illness. Her family and longtime friend, Sue were at her side.
The family will be having a celebration of life and receiving friends at Sunset Memorial Park Reception Center on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm.
Linda was born August 23, 1942, to James Curtis and Vallie Jones McGowan. She spent her early years in Geneva where she graduated from Gevena High School in 1960. Upon graduation, she attended Huntingdon College. Following her education she was employed at the State Capitol in Montgomery. Linda subsequently left the State Capitol, returned to Geneva and was employed at Ft. Rucker as an Editor for the Aviation Digest. She married George Bowdoin December 24, 1972; they moved to Dothan and began their business Bowdoin Construction.
Preceding Linda in death were her husband, George; her parents; brothers: William Albert, Frank, James Curtis, Jr., and Henry; her sisters: Louise Roney, JoAnne Futrell, Margaret Ruth Carr, Mary Nell Martin, Martha Carr, Janie Hatcher, and Edith Bennett.
Surviving are Linda’s three children and six grandchildren: Lori (Jason) Brown, (William, Laci, Ella), Lana (Matt) Stephenson (Evie, Turner, Connor), and Charles Bowdoin; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, especially longtime special friends Sue Dean, Marie Jordan, and Sally Highsmith. Linda loved her family and friends, always putting them first. She truly has touched and inspired so many lives. You are so loved and will be forever missed. Until we see you again, Rest in Peace my dear friend and mother.
