NEWVILLE…Lindy Brannon Alexander, a resident of the Old Center Community, near Newville, died Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2017 in a Dothan hospital after a brief illness. She was 87.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in the Old Center United Methodist Church with Reverend Anita Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is directing. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Old Center United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Priscilla Trawick, 4852 County Road 7, Newville, Alabama 36353.


            A native and lifelong resident of the Old Center Community of Henry County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Eudona Brannon, Jr. and Birdie Brannon. Mrs. Alexander was a 1947 graduate of Newville High School, a very active member of the Old Center United Methodist Church and was an excellent seamstress for friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Bowen Homemakers Club and the Newville Graduates Lunch Club. Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Willard Alexander; three sisters, Lucille Spires, Helen McGarrah, and Billie Dill. Mrs. Alexander loved traveling, working in her yard, and visiting friends and neighbors.


            Survivors are one daughter, Nancy A. Woods (Jim), Newville; a son, Ronny Alexander (Melonee), Dothan; one sister, Celia Lackey (Melvin), Toomsuba, MS; two brothers-in-law, Sam Alexander (Myra), Newville and James R. Spires, Mobile; seven grandchildren, Robert Palmer (Jennifer), Pamela Whitehead (Keith), Laura Arnold (John), Curry Woods, Adam Alexander (Cindy), Ben Alexander (Crystal), Angie Alexander (Janie Creech); eight great-grandchildren, Justin Palmer, Kaylee Hughes, Will Hughes, Mally Arnold, Carson Arnold, Jack Alexander, B.J. Alexander, Blake Alexander; a special cousin, Jane Murphy (George), Abbeville; numerous nieces and nephews.


            The family would like to thank the medical staff of 3 East, the Neuro-ICU and the Palliative Care Unit at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Dothan.
