Linnie Lee Barlie Spears
Linnie Lee Barlie Spears, 89, originally of Sellersville, Alabama, passed away at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas on September 12, 2016.
Linnie was born on Dec. 18, 1926 in Sellersville, Ala. to Margaret (Doll) and Walter T. (Bud) Barlie. She was a graduate of Samson High School and attended Troy State University.
She married the love of her life, Joe Spears, on Jan. 31, 1947. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage until Joe’s death on Jan. 28, 2012. Linnie and Joe had 1 daughter, Wanda. Linnie taught at a small school in AL for a brief time and worked as a bookkeeper for several years in Dothan, AL. The family moved to Macon, GA in 1969 and Linnie worked as a teacher’s aide at Tinsley Elementary School in Macon, GA where she retired in 1991.
Linnie and Joe moved back to Dothan, Al in 1991. After Joe’s death in 2012, Linnie relocated to Olathe, KS to live at Aberdeen Village, a Senior Living Facility, where she spent the last 4 years. Her daughter, Wanda and son-in-law Dennis, and grandsons, Jacob and Jonathan Doles have been privileged to have her in Kansas. Linnie was a wonderful cook, enjoyed embroidery, and during her time at Aberdeen Village, discovered a new talent for painting.
Linnie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Henry Spears, her brother, William (Bill) Samuel Barlie, and her parents Margaret and Walter Barlie. Survivors are her daughter, Wanda Doles {Dennis}, and her beloved grandsons, Jacob and Jonathan Doles.
A service will be held at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home of Dothan on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 19, 2016.
Our family wishes to thank the staff of both Aberdeen Village and Grace Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
