NEWVILLE. . .Lisa Thomas Barnes, a resident of Newville, died Friday night, June 2, 2023, at her home. She was 60.

            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, June 5, 2023, in the Concord Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2431 W. Main Street, Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.

            Lisa Marie Thomas Barnes was born in Montgomery and was raised in Tuscaloosa. She was a graduate of Central High School and attended Shelton State Community College, both in Tuscaloosa. Lisa lived most of her adult lifetime in Vidalia, Georgia before moving to the Concord Community of Henry County in 2013. While a resident of Vidalia, she was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was Baptized. She was formerly employed as a Preschool Teacher at Wee Care Preschool in Vidalia. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Concord Baptist Church where she loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Jackson Thomas and her father-in-law, Donice Shelton Barnes.

            Surviving relatives include her husband of forty years, Donice Ray “Don” Barnes, a daughter, Kaitlyn Benton (Bryan), Lyons, GA; a son, Garrett Shelton Barnes (Morissa), Wasilla, Alaska; her mother, Marie Moore and step-father, David Moore, Carrollton, AL; a brother, Greg Thomas (Karla), Reform, AL;  three grandchildren, Brody Benton, Bailor Benton and Wyatt Barnes; mother-in-law, Shirley Barnes, sister-in-law, Sheila Barnes; several nieces and nephews.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Tony Kizziah, Colton Kizziah, Brody Benton, Shan Kizziah, Kade Kizziah and Scott Ginther.
