Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

“This establishment does not own a crematory.”

Lois Ann Matthews died October 30, 2021, with her daughter by her side.  She is loved by many friends and family near and far.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 11, 2021, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark.  Interment will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark one hour prior to service time on Thursday.

Lois was born October 8, 1951, was the only daughter of Amelia McAllinster.  Raised by her grandparents, Mack and Inella Matthews; whom she affectionately called Dad and Mom.  After 17 years in Ozark, and under the Christian upbringing of St. Mark AME Church,  in 1969 Lois left Ozark for the big city life in Chicago, Illinois.  Four years after coming to Chicago, she found love and had a daughter.  Lois spent the majority of her time working in Information Technology with hopes to achieve her professional goals with dreams of retiring and eventually traveling the world.  In 2005, she started at DXC Technology as a Contingency Services Manager.  In her downtime, she loved spending time with her best friends, traveling, and scheduling monthly dinners.  She considered them her “sister circle”.   Lois loved being a grandmother! When she wasn’t working or with her friends, Lois could be found spoiling her grandchildren and laughing at mostly anything they said.   She also continued her faith at Apostolic Church of God in Chicago; by serving in the choir and various other activities over the years serving our God.

Survivors include one daughter, Dee; one granddaughter, Serena; three grandsons, Christian, Ricky and Ava; (Aunt) Pearl Johnson, (Aunt) Gracie Gaines, (Aunt) Lottie Johnson, (Cousin) Stanley Franklin, (Cousin) Kishay Gaines; and a host of other family members and close friends.
