HEADLAND. . .Lois E. Lingo Smith, a former resident of Headland, passed away Saturday morning, November 3, 2012, in the Westside Terrace Health & Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. She was 90.



            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 5, 2012, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.



            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the “Bridge To Tomorrow Building Fund”, c/o First Baptist Church, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345.



            Mrs. Smith was born in Henry County, near Newville, October 21, 1922, daughter of the late Elijah Wesley Lingo and Lillie Pastoria Holland Lingo. She moved to Headland in 1945 where she lived until moving to Westside Terrace in 2007. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland where she was a member of the Primetime Singers. She and her husband established the H. E. Smith Well Drilling Company in 1946, a company which has grown into one of the largest well drilling companies in the country. Mrs. Smith was dearly loved by all and was crowned “Westside Terrace Sweetheart, 2008” and runner-up, “Mrs. Westside Terrace” in 2010. She was also honored in a recently published book authored by her son, Gary.



            Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Horace E. (Dub) Smith, sisters, Ovie C. Ryals, Ollie B. Maddox, Miree Skipper and Sallie V. Smith, and brothers, John T. Lingo, Tollie D. Lingo and James E. Lingo.



            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Janice Marcum (Doug), Spring Hill, TN; and Jerone Holwerda (Ed), Headland; four sons, Donald E. Smith (Carlotta), Headland; Gary L. Smith (Pat), Brentwood, TN; Joseph H. Smith (Shirley), Headland; and Teddy D. Smith (Vicki), Headland; a sister, Ruby Morriss, Dothan; two brothers, Joe Lingo, Cataula, GA; and Tom Lingo, Smiths, AL; grandchildren, Scott Marcum (Terri), Lee Marcum (Holly), Yulonda Nesiba (Bruce), Mickey Miller (Leta), Kelli Watford (Donnie), Don Smith (Jamie), Philip Smith (Linda), Nikki Smith, Donna Williams, Sheree Scott (Sam), Dawn Smith, Josh Smith (Anna), Brooke Whitfield (Chris), and Laura Welch (Kelly); twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Donna Byrd, Jim Davis, Shellie Johnson and Faye Scott.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Scott Marcum, Lee Marcum, Philip Smith, Josh Smith, Don Smith, Chris Whitfield and Patrick Nesiba.
