Lomax Fulford passed away suddenly in his home in Clayhatchee on June 13, 2024 at the age of 86.


Lomax was born February 3, 1938 to Grady and Ethel Fulford in Clayhatchee, AL. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1956. He served in the Alabama National Guard. He retired from the Alabama State Highway Department. He served as deacon, treasurer, and other leadership roles at Providence Baptist Church for many decades.


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Hixson and Rev Tommy Green officiating.  Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until service time at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 10 Providence Lane, Daleville, AL 36322 which was a project Lomax oversaw for many years.


He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Grady and Ethel, and his six brothers and sisters: Clint (Mary), Carlos (Katherine), Ebra Bond (Clyde), Doris Mobley, Rex and Kenneth (Elizabeth).


He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julia Dunaway Fulford, and his two children, Randy Fulford and Laura Dunleavy, and their families, Jeff Ayers and Patrick Dunleavy. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jerry Fulford, brother-in-law Bennie Joe Dunaway and his wife, Nancy, and many nieces and nephews.
