Lonnie Howard Correll, 79, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle Road, following a lengthy illness.
Lonnie was a veteran of the United States Army Infantry where he served at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and in South Korea.
Lonnie impacted generations of Wiregrass residents by serving their insurance needs for more than forty years and was described as the best dressed businessman in town! He was a member of the Elk’s Club, Rotary Club and the VFW.
Lonnie was a loving daddy and “PaPa”. He was always up for a good laugh. He loved the Alabama Crimson Tide, Subway chocolate chip cookies and his good friends at Wesley Place.
Lonnie’s love of sports was lifelong and included baseball, football, tennis and golf. The memories he made with his golf group continued to impact his life, long after he was unable to enjoy them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard “Jim” and Ruthie Lee Correll, and his wife, Sondra Butch Correll.
Survivors include his son, Christopher (Peggy) Correll and daughter, Carole Ann Correll, as well as grandchildren, Madison Correll and Chase Correll, Ana Abbott and Ava Abbott; step-children and their families, Tee (Elizabeth) McClimans and Jason (Lauren) McClimans, as well as step-grandchildren, Catie, Sarah Gibs and Nannee McClimans, Alex, Max, and Walter McClimans; a brother, Jim (Cheri) Correll; and his best friend, Tim Reeves.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends who wish to remember Lonnie are invited to send memorial donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or a charity of their choice.
