Mrs. Rister was born on June 27, 1944 to Lawlus and Hattie Mae Wideman and was one of five children. She was raised in the Nauvoo, North Alabama area. Jane graduated high school in 1962 from Minor High School in Birmingham, AL. and then furthered her studies at UAB in Accounting. In 1964, she met and married Lamar Rister while working at Progressive Farmer in Birmingham, AL. The two of them designed and developed Metropolitan Printing Shop in Graysville, AL. She assisted her husband with all administrative and print work for several years. Eventually, they decided to sell their business and move to Headland, AL. to take over Rister Farms. After moving to Headland, she continued her college career at Troy State University in Dothan, studying Accounting, Marketing, and Micro-computers. She later worked at Southern Oil Co., Ansell, Inc., Pointe Wiregrass, Inc., and Southeast Alabama Medical Center (now known as Southeast Health Medical Center) until she was 72 years of age. She and Lamar had one daughter, Lora “Lori” Rister Lindsay. Jane enjoyed all people, she had a cheerful and giving heart, and so many received her blessings. She attended Blackwood Church in Headland, AL. and served her church family well, by assuming treasurer, accounting, and many other committee duties. She loved her church family and enjoyed her lifelong years of fellowship with everyone. Jane is famous for her cooking skills, especially her cream corn. She always said, “The Lord gave me the talent to feed a multitude.” And she did, so many times, so well. She enjoyed the beach and any other adventure her daughter and grandchildren carried her on. She was always ready to make memories and enjoy life. Her life was the definition of unconditional love, joy, and peace, to everyone she encountered. She left her mark on this world and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rister was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wideman.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her husband of 57 years, Lamar Rister; her daughter, Lori Rister Lindsay (Josh); two grandchildren, Adam Joshua Stevens (J. Leigh) all of Headland, AL, Rachel Scussel Massieu (Christopher) of Phenix City, AL; her great-grandchild, Anna Lee Grace Massieu; her brother, Donald Wideman; two sisters, Marie Wideman Young and Shannon Wideman Monday (Chuck); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Wideman, Bern Wood, Greg Young, John Kennedy, Ira Bonner, and Myron Johnson.
A special thank you to Dr. Robert (Bob) Kreutzmann for the love and care you always show to your family. Cancer Treatment Center of Atlanta (Newnan, GA), for all their discerning treatment options, hope, and holistic individualized care. Also, Southern Care Hospice in Dothan, AL. Ramona and John Espy Kennedy for being the hands and feet of Jesus, during this most difficult time for our family.
