Lorene B. Scarborough, 95, of Dothan, died Monday, May 28, at her home in Dothan, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday June 2 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1700 Barrington Road with Rev. Joe Johnson and Bethany Olson of Evergreen Presbyterian Church, Dothan, AL officiating. Burial at Providence Church Cemetery, Clayhatchee, Alabama will follow the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 until 2 pm prior to the funeral. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions made to Bellwood Baptist Church, P.O. Box 70,.Bellwood, Alabama, 35313 or to Felines Under Rescue (FUR), P.O. Box 1788, Dothan, AL, 36302. At all other times the family will be at the home of David & Murriel Scarborough, 120 Summerleaf Way, Dothan, AL.
Lorene was the daughter of Lynn and Bessie Bryan of Bellwood Alabama, where she lived until her marriage in 1940. She was a graduate and valedictorian of Coffee Springs High School, Coffee Springs Alabama and attended Riley Business College, Dothan, AL. She was one of the “Singing Secretaries” on WAGF radio and was a Beauty Queen in the first Peanut Festival. In 1955 she was a winner in the Peanut Festival Recipe Contest. She was a member of the Mary Class at the former Lafayette Street Methodist Church of Dothan, AL.
Mrs. Scarborough was predeceased by her husband, Cullen Scarborough, Dothan, AL, her parents and three brothers, Harry, Willard and Frasier Bryan of Bellwood, AL and two nieces Kaye Kelly of Florida and Miriam Coker of Dothan.
She is survived by her daughter Dianna Rogers and son David Scarborough and daughter in law, Murriel, all of Dothan; her grandchildren, George (Marie) Rogers of Atlanta, GA, Ashley Scarborough of Dothan, Leah (Mark) Gulley of Charlotte, NC, Jeff Rogers of Dothan, AL, Patrick Scarborough of Birmingham, AL, Dawn (Nate) Gordon of Wicksburg, AL; her great-grandchildren, Kyla & Jonnie Rogers of Clearwater, FL, their mother Teresa Rogers and Elizabeth, Mark, Jr. and Rebecca Gulley of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Mary Frank Lee of Hartford, AL; other survivors include, nephew Gary Bryan and niece Lynda Paul of Enterprise, AL, nephew Philip Scarborough of Panama City FL, niece Alice Arnold of Dothan, AL, cousins, Stephanie Ronan, FL, Pansy Elliott, Enterprise, AL and Thomas Bryan, Opelika, AL.
Active pallbearers will be the grandsons, grandsons-in-law, Gary Bryan and Tony Lee.
We wish to thank the caretakers, Essie McLeod, Jeanette Ward, Donna Tillman, Christina Gordon, and Syreeta Rhodes for their compassionate care of our beloved Mother.
