Lou Ann was born in Dothan, Alabama on January 6, 1938, to L. B. and Mitchell Hardy Whaley and was raised in Webb, AL. She was a long time resident of Destin, FL where she was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Lou Ann graduated from Auburn University and was an avid SEC football fan, mainly of the Auburn Tigers. War Eagle! She retired after thirty years with the Florida Education System. The last fifteen years she spent teaching at Destin Elementary School. Due to ill health, Lou Ann later moved to O’Fallon, MO to be near her daughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, L. B. and Mitchell Whaley.
Lou Ann is survived by a son, Robert E. Keel and wife, Mindy, grandsons, Matthew, Callaway, and Cody Keel, a daughter, Lisa Keel Faber, granddaughter, Brittany Faber and grandson, Colton Faber, a brother, Gene H. Whaley, a sister, Sue Whaley Cadenhead, and husband, Rhett E. Cadenhead, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of a life well-lived will take place at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church, Destin, with Pastor Kevin Wendt officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at the church. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will take place Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Webb, Alabama Cemetery with Pastor Joel Laseter officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Grace Lutheran Church, 4325 Commons Drive West, Destin, FL 32541.
