ABBEVILLE…Louise Hartzog Dixon Smith, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday afternoon, August 3, 2021, at her daughter’s home. She was 99.
Private graveside services will be held Friday afternoon, August 6, 2021, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East with Reverend Ray Cobb officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Care Hospice, 1512 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301, and the Abbeville Fire and Rescue Squad, 201 Bradley Street, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Louise Smith was born and reared in Barbour County, near Clayton, daughter of the late Daniel Augusta Hartzog and Mary Alice Dominey Hartzog. She moved to Abbeville in 1959 and later retired from WestPoint Stevens after thirty years of employment. Louise was a former member of the Bowen Home Demonstration Club. She was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church, where she served as Church Clerk and Secretary-Treasurer of the cemetery fund for many years. Louise was preceded in death by husbands, Floyd J. Dixon (the father of her children), Doyle White and Olin M. Smith, sons-in-law, Leray Spivey and Verby McCraney, a step-son, Roger Olin Smith, three sisters, Grace Hagler, Agnes Carpenter and Hazel Dixon, and a brother, Murray Hartzog.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mary Lou Money (Frankie), Haleburg; and Carolyn McCraney, Abbeville; a son, David J. Dixon (Peggy), Clanton; three grandchildren, Kenneth Money, Debbie Spivey (David) and Darrin Spivey (Ginny); five great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
