Loyd McCuistian passed away peacefully on May 31, 2022, about 1:00 p.m. at the age of 90. Loyd was born in Archer County, Texas in his parents’ house on March 31, 1932.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, June 3, 2022, at County Line Baptist Church, with burial following in the County Line Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time.
At the age of 18, Loyd was looking for work, but with the Korean Conflict in full swing, prospective employers wouldn’t hire him, thinking he was likely to be drafted, so he went to the Army Recruiter and enlisted.
Loyd served his country for three years – 10 months of it in Korea as an artillery man until the Army flew him back to the States on his 21st birthday in 1953. He spent the last part of his time in the Army stationed at Camp Rucker and met Annie Merle Duffell in Clayhatchee, Alabama.
In November of 1953 he and Anne married and initially moved back to Loyd’s home state of Texas, but moved back to Alabama in 1960, where Loyd opened a Foreign Car Garage in Daleville, AL. He operated his own garage for 30 years after that, and for the last 10 years of his self-employment, he concurrently operated a one-man sawmill he had installed on his property in Level Plains. He retired in 1994 and spent the next 20 years working with Anne on her daylily farm in Dothan.
Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Luke McCuistian and Elsie Marie Shawver McCuistian, and by his older sister Louise Tatum (Dave) his wife Anne McCuistian and daughter Susan Lynn McCuistian.
Loyd is survived by his brother Lewis (Delores) and his sister Lois; his children Richard (Lynne), Mark, and Michele; along with six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
