Lt. Col. Marcus Edgar Crawford, USAF, Ret. of Westville, FL passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Eddie Eaton, Rev. Stacy Stafford and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites in the Beulah Anna Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Crawford was born in Jacksonville, TX on March 26, 1929 to the late Marcus J. and Ethely Woodrome Crawford.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Crawford Hoyt; one son, Greg Crawford; one sister, Jewel Schilz.
Mr. Crawford retired from the USAF after 22 years of faithful service. During this time he served in Korea, Guam and Vietnam where he flew the first flight of the F-4’s. He trained the younger men and was affectionately known as “Pappie” because he was the oldest of the cadets that he served with.
One of his highlights in his career, he had the great pleasure and honor of having President Richard Nixon on board his military plane. Following his military career he taught accounting for 20 years at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida.
In 2002 he along with his wife started serving the mission field for God’s Pit crew, an organization serving after natural disasters. He was proud to be a distinguished member of Tyler Lodge # 1233 in Tyler, TX, where he was raised to the degree of Master Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Coursey Crawford of Westville, FL; four sons, Richard Crawford (Elizabeth) of Brandon, FL, Phillip Avera (Carolyn) of Morton, MS, Ronald Avera (Lisa) of El Cajon, CA, and Edwin Santiago (Krissy) of Ponce de Leon, FL; daughter-in-law, Eileen Crawford (widow of Greg) of Lutz, FL; a number of special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
