LTC Albert Lee Smith (U.S. Army Retired) died Monday, August 4, 2014, at Westside Terrace in Dothan, AL.


“We have loved them during life let us not abandon them until we have conducted them, by our prayers, into the house of the Lord.” (St. Ambrose)


Although a highly decorated career U.S. Army Officer (he was a helicopter, fixed wing and multi-engine pilot), he was a Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Throughout his life, he answered the call to service as an insurance agent, service officer of the Houston County Veterans Administration, and was a member of the Optimist and Elks Club. He especially loved tutoring first graders at Hidden Lake Elementary School.


He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn, proud father of five children, Linda Crampton, Lois Ebley, David Smith (Sophia), Cathy Yates (Pete), and Douglas Smith. He had eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


Private Family Services will be at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Jovan Barrington officiating. In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Social Services, 557 West Main Street, Dothan, AL, 36301, or to the OCS Scholarship Fund, c/o Richard Green, 190 SW Wren Ct., Lake City, Florida 32025.
