LTC (Ret.) Charlie Stewart, age 86, of Enterprise, AL passed away, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 16, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Bruce officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., on Thursday, at the funeral home.


Charlie was drafted into the U S Army before graduating from High School, during World War II. After basic training he served in Japan and shared his experience of surviving an earthquake in December, 1947, which he always said “that was something I will never forget”.  After World War II he returned to Troy, completed high school and graduated from college.  He was recalled into service during the Korean War.  After his release, he continued to serve in the Alabama National Guard as officer in charge of the Enterprise National Guard and commanded a battalion in Eufaula until his retirement.  He served 41 years in active Military service and the National Guard.


He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Stewart.


Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Faye Howell Stewart, Chancellor, AL; daughter, Brenda Washington, Panama City Beach, FL; granddaughter, Jessica Reeves, Panama City Beach, FL; grandson, Hunter Reeves, Enterprise, AL; sister, Sara Newsom, Denton, TX; brothers, James Stewart, Tuscaloosa, AL; Fred Stewart; Mullis Stewart, both of Troy, AL.
