LTC Robert Eudona "Don" Turner (United States Army National Guard, Retired), a resident of Ozark, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, in his home surrounded by family. He was 87 years old.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
The family will receive friends in the church Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until service time.
Mr. Turner was born September 22, 1936 in Houston County to the late Edgar A. and Dora B. Turner. He was a 1955 graduate of Newton High School. Mr. Turner served in the United States Navy from 1955 – 1959. He also served in the Alabama Army National Guard over 30 years with three (3) of those years being active duty. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Troy State University as well as his Masters degree in Counseling.
He married Edith Louise Snellgrove on 12/20/1958. Mr. Turner was a faithful member of Ozark Baptist Church since 1966 and was ordained a deacon in 1995. He served as Dale County Commission Chairman in the early 1980s. He had the privilege of being a Gideon affiliated with the Dale County chapter. He owned Ozark Aviation Company in the early 1970s. Until his retirement, he owned and operated D&E Industries.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Turner; mother, Dora Turner Fontenot; step-father, Paul T. Fontenot; grandmother, Joanna Williams Monk Gill (Ma Jo); uncle, Pete Monk; aunt, Rada Mae Monk (Toodley); sister, Jean Walker Howell; and sister, Cathy Davis. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Edith Turner; three (3) children, Carol Williams (Sammy); Terri Wiggins (Bryant); and Nancy Oliver (Rhett); four (4) grandchildren, Ben Williams (Emily); Emily Ryan (Matt); Matthew Williams; and Turner Oliver; two (2) great grandchildren, Ford and Jay Williams; sister, Patsy Cooper; step-sister, Debbie Pruett (Bill); step-brother, Paul Raymond Fontenot (Mary); and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to DaySpring Hospice.
