Lucille Thames Rogers, known affectionately as Lucille to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, in Ozark, Alabama, at the venerable age of 94. Born on July 17, 1930, in Goodman, Alabama, Lucille's life was marked by her unwavering strength, warmth, and the boundless love she had for her family.

Lucille's journey began as one of John Thames and Ollie Bell Smith's cherished children. Her early years were characterized by the same tenacity and resilience that would come to define her entire life. Despite the challenges of a hard life, Lucille's spirit remained undaunted, and her role as the glue of the family was one she took on with pride and devotion.

The matriarch of a large and loving family, Lucille is survived by her children, Rick Reynolds, Janie Dickerson (George), Debra Tapia, Brenda Morales, Tina Goodman (Richard), and Susan Denise Humburg. She was a cherished grandmother to Vanessa Reynolds, Shannon Williams, Sean and Shayne Ghavidel, Michael and Dana Tapia, Rodney Lopez, Ciara Morales, Gary Black, Chelsei Martin, Seth Nowling, Chris and Teresa Stanton, and Dale Carrier. Lucille also leaves behind many adored great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her sister, Jean McLaughlin. Lucille was preceded in death by her children Earl Rogers, Jr. and Julie Robinson, some of her siblings, and her parents.

Throughout her life, Lucille was a pillar of strength and independence, raising her children as a single parent. Her love for her family was her driving force, and she instilled in them the values of generosity and kindness that she embodied. Lucille was a familiar face at the Ice House in Ozark, where she was employed for many years. Her generosity extended beyond her home, as she would often bring catfish to her neighbors after work, feeding not just her own family but also those around her.

Lucille's interests and passions painted the picture of a life well-lived and full of joy. She was an avid fan of Elvis, and her love for baking was renowned, especially when it came to her tea cakes, which were a delight to all who had the pleasure of tasting them. Lucille's kindness was felt not only in her actions but also in the warmth of her kitchen, where she welcomed friends and family alike.

Lucille's life was a testament to the beauty of giving and the strength of the human spirit. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told by her children, the laughter of her grandchildren, and the traditions she passed down. Lucille Thames Rogers was more than just a name; she was a beacon of love and the heart of a family that will forever feel her absence yet be guided by her enduring love and the lessons she imparted.

As we bid farewell to Lucille, we celebrate the remarkable life she led and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her legacy of love and selflessness continues to inspire all who knew her. Lucille Thames Rogers, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, may have left this world, but her spirit will always remain with us.
