NEWVILLE. . .Lucy McLain Singleton, a resident of Newville, died early Tuesday morning, July 19, 2016, in the Henry County Health Rehabilitation Center. She was 98.
Graveside services will be held at 11:45 AM Thursday, July 21, 2016, in the Old Center United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Anita Brown officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. Thursday in the sanctuary of the Old Center United Methodist Church.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Old Center United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Priscilla Trawick, 4852 County Road 7, Newville, AL 36353.
Mrs. Singleton was born and reared in Henry County, daughter of the late John Thomas McLain and Dora Trammell McLain. She was a 1937 graduate of Newville High School where she was an outstanding basketball player. Mrs. Singleton was the last living member of the Old Blackwoods United Methodist Church. She attended the Old Center United Methodist Church with her late husband and son for the past forty years. Mrs. Singleton was formerly employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Henry County Hospital in Abbeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Quay T. Singleton, four sisters, Thelma Priest, Alma Ammons, Maebelle Deal and Dorothy Watson, and two brothers, John McLain and W. J. (Will) McLain.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Carol Singleton Lowe (Gary), Tallassee, AL; a son, Sherrill Singleton (Sandra), Headland; five grandchildren, Ginger Scarborough (Bruce), Jody Singleton (Amy), Joy Pitchford (John), Bradley Lowe (Reagan), and Dr. Melanie Hyte (Rhett), thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Billie Sue Singleton Deese, Webb, AL; and a brother-in-law, C. T. Singleton (Marie), Enterprise; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jody Singleton, Bruce Scarborough, John Pitchford, Trent Scarborough, Hunter Singleton, Brad Lowe and Rhett Hyte.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Singleton’s caretakers and her friends at the Newville Senior Citizens Center for the loving care and kindness shown to her during her lifetime.
