Date of Service Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Mary Baptist Church in Gordon, AL with Reverend Robert J. Knight, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel.

Lugean T. Smith, age 91, of Gordon Alabama was called home to our Lord on Sunday, September 29, 2019. She was also known as “Gene” and “Meadea”.

Lugean was born December 25, 1927 in Gordon, Alabama to Aaron and Josie Thomas. She was a faithful member of the St. Mary Baptist Church for over 50 years until her death. She was the former president of the Usher’s Board and a member of the Ladies’ Aid Missionary Society.
Preceding her in death was her devoted husband, Ozell Smith (married for 71 years); her father and mother; sisters, Mrs. Ora Lee Tobie, Mrs. Lizzie M. Miller, Mrs. Edna R. Ray and Mrs. Eddie R. Brown; brothers, Mr. Aaron Thomas, Jr. and James E. Thomas and son-in-law, David Young.
She leaves to mourn her passing five children: Irma (George) Reynolds of Columbia, SC, Leroy (Curlie) Smith of Ashford, AL, Maxine Young of Dothan, AL, Melverton (Booker T.) Hogan of Headland, AL, Danny (Elizabeth) Smith of Dothan, AL; a special sister and care-giver, Annie J. (James) Cummings of Gordon; sister, Hazel J. (Walter) Harley of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, John (Alice) Thomas of Gordon, AL and Gerome (Mary) Thomas of Jacksonville, FL; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
