Mr. Lunie Blackmon was born on April 7,1935 to the late Johnny and Della Windham Blackmon. He was raised in Dale County and later moved to the Geneva County area. Lunie was drafted into the Army in 1958 and spent only a few short months due to an overdraft and was sent back home. For many, many years Mr. Lunie Blackmon and his late bride, Mrs. Louverne Blackmon, has called a small place on a windy hill in Malvern, Alabama home. It is where he raised his family, grew his gardens, spoiled his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m, Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at Malvern Baptist Church, with Reverend Hosea Parker officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at the church.

Flowers will be accepted.

Most of those who know Lunie do not know him as an electrician and maintenance man, even though he wore both of those titles proudly for well over 40 years during his long career at Hedstrom that ended when the company closed their doors. They don’t know him as the man that went to work at Cooking Good/Wayne Farms until his retirement in the maintenance department. Instead, they know him as a husband, a father, a Papa, a friend, a gardener, a small farmer and a man who loved to go “wet a hook” at the fishing pond.

Late this winter, as usual, Lunie prepared his garden for planting this spring. He bought seed and fertilizer and worked the soil. He prepared all of his family for the season of hard work that was to come. The season of harvest, of plucking what has been planted. We were ready for it.

God had other plans. On May 5, 2022 Lunie’s season on Earth ended and God decided it was time to pluck him from our world so that he could enter His kingdom.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;”

We weren’t ready, but we rest easy knowing that the reunion with his bride of 60 years was a grand occasion.

In addition to his parents, Lunie is preceded in death by his spouse; Louverne Scott Blackmon, two brothers; Jack Blackmon and Rufus Blackmon, two sisters; Estelle Watson and Voncile Mosely, one grandson; Jesse Sawyer.

Survivors include: Daughter; Peggy Sawyer ( Lance) of Malvern, Son; Steve Blackmon (Angie) of Slocomb, Grandchildren; Bryan Sawyer (Chandra) of Samson, Jessica Parker (Tim) of Dothan, Kimberly Blackmon of Panama City, Steven Blackmon(Ariel) of Panama City, Tyler Blackmon of Nicholasville KY. Casey Beck (Samantha) of Dothan, Samantha Fields(Xavier) of Montgomery. Great grandchildren; Jaxon and Jayden Valverde, Bryce Sawyer, Aiden Adkinson, Emory and Theo Blackmon, and Maddie Blackmon.

Pallbearers: Tim Parker, Andrew Hurley, Jesse Scott, Steven Blackmon, Tyler Blackmon and Casey Beck
Honorary Pallbearers: Bryan Sawyer, JJ Scott and Michael Blackmon.
