Lydia Jerrylene Thames Nichols of Coffee Springs, AL went home to be with her Heavenly Father and loved ones on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the age of 88. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at El Bethel Baptist Church in Chancellor, AL with Rev. Dave Hingson and Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contrubutions may be made to Wiregrass Area Food Bank, 382 Twitchell Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Nichols was born in Coffee Springs on April 3, 1930 to the late John Thomas and Maggie Proctor Thames. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved teaching children about Jesus and served in the Methodist Lay Witness Missions as a Children’s Coordinator in the 1980’s. She was a founder of the Coffee Springs Food Bank starting in 1990 and volunteered until her passing. Because of this service, she was awarded the Silent Hero’s Award in 2017.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Nichols; son, Lester Nichols; parents, John T. and Maggie Proctor Thames; five brothers, Robert, Aubrey, Atrace, John Thomas, and Charles Thames; two sisters, Lori Czarnowski and Theda Mae Thames; two step-brothers, B.J. and Roy Thames; two step-sisters, Louise Hudson and Thelma Arrington; and great-granddaughter, Makayla Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Curtis) Davis of Coffee Springs; daughter-in-law, Margarett Nichols of Coffee Springs; five grandchildren, Charlotte (Tim) Brown of Tallahassee, FL, Shannon (Heather) Nichols of Level Plains, Brandon (Angie) Davis of Elba, Jamison (Gayle) Davis of Coffee Springs, Kacy Davis of Coffee Springs; one sister, Janice Drzewicki of Brooksville, FL; one brother, Calvin Thames of Toney, AL; ten great-grandchildren, Dillon, Brianna and Brodie Davis of Elba, Maddie Brown of Tallahassee, James, Andrea, Matthew and Malorie Nichols of Level Plains, Deeanna and Logan Davis of Coffee Springs, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
