Mr. Lynn Roger Aycock of Geneva, Alabama went to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 20, 2014, after a brief illness. He was 70.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014 in the Maple Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating. Mr. Aycock will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, November 22, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Roger was born February 13, 1944, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Henry and Ruby Lee Bell Aycock. On March 5, 1965, he married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Fay Smith. For 43 years he was employed at the U.S. Army Aviation School at Ft. Rucker. During his tenure at Ft. Rucker he was an active member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Roger enjoyed fishing, woodworking and yard work. Roger was always willing and ready to help anyone in need, earning him the title of “handyman” for the community. The love he had for his children and grandchildren was unconditional. Maple Avenue Baptist Church was blessed to have him as a member for 41 years where he served in several different capacities.
In addition to his parents, a grandson, Chase Andrew Aycock, and a sister, Bernice Stone, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Fay Smith Aycock of Geneva; one son, Anthony (Jelynn) Aycock of Natchez, MS; one daughter, Jennie Rebecca (Ricky) Mixon of Bowie MD; two grandchildren: Ryan Anthony Aycock and Hayley Livanna (Sawyer) Gonzalez; one great-grandson due in January; one sister, Lois Minor (Doug) Floyd of Pensacola, FL; two brothers: Edward (Margaret) Aycock and Jeffery Glynn (Teena) Aycock all of Coffee Springs; other extended family and friends.
