Lynne Hathcock Summerford, a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at Southeast Health. She was 77.
Mrs. Summerford was born on February 8, 1946 in Dothan to Benjamin Edward and Evelyn Thompson Hathcock. She was a 1964 graduate of Dothan High School and later graduated from Troy State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. She was employed with Ozark City Schools, Troy Middle School, and Dothan City Schools for 33 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Summerford served as the inaugural principal when Kelly Springs School opened in the early 90’s. For approximately 15 years, her greatest joys in her career were attained with her beloved faculty, staff, and the many wonderful students whose lives she touched. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan.
Mrs. Summerford is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Benjamin Edward (Ed) Hathcock, Jr., and nephews, Jon Michael Hill and Joe Morgan Thomas, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, George McArthur Summerford of Dothan; two sons, Terrance Creel (Georgia) and Keith Creel (Reta), from Dothan; a stepson, Andy Summerford (Beth) of Dothan; stepdaughter, Amy Tolleson (Tony) of Shelby County; grandchildren, Peyton Creel, Jaci Creel, Grayson Creel, Taylor Creel, and Sophie Creel; step-grandchildren, Summer Hughes (Daniel), Sydney Tolleson, Taylor Tolleson (Nikki), Joshua Summerford (Bailey), Jeremiah Summerford, John Curtis Summerford; nine step-greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Anne Thomas and Carol Hill (Mike), of Columbiana, and a brother, Dr. John Hathcock (Terri) of Auburn as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, 3:00 at Ashford Cemetery, 920 N. Broadway Street, Ashford, Alabama, with Dr. David R. Saliba and Rev. Lynn S. Nesbitt officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Glover Funeral Home preceding service.
Serving as pallbearers are Grayson Creel, Joshua Summerford, Jeremiah Summerford, John Curtis Summerford, and Taylor Tolleson. Honorary pallbearer is Peyton Creel who is serving overseas.
