HEADLAND. . .Mable Knight Morris, a former resident of Headland and Columbia, died Monday afternoon, February 27, 2017, in Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Mike Wehner and Chaplain Jack Wingate officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. Wednesday in the sanctuary of the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Jimmy Morris, 116 Mulberry Lane, Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jerry Knowles, 5373 E. County 22 Road, Headland, AL 36345.
Mrs. Morris was born and reared in the Hebron Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Joseph Livingston Knight and Nancy Granberry Knight. She lived most of adult lifetime near Columbia and also lived in Headland before moving to Extendicare in 2010. Mrs. Morris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland. She was retired as an agent from Mutual Savings Life Insurance Company. In earlier years, Mrs. Morris was employed by Wex-Tex Manufacturing Company of Headland and Ashford, Judy Bond Blouse Company of Columbia and J. C. Penney. In earlier years, she and her late husband owned and operated Morris Grocery & Market in the Shiloh Community, near Columbia. Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her husband, Burnice J. Morris, a son, Kenneth Edward Morris, and three brothers, Ronald Knight, Max Knight and Carl Knight.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Betty M. Odom (Bubba), Columbia; and Gail Phillips (Tom), Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Jimmy W. Morris (Ginger), Headland; and Rickey Morris (Dina), Ashford; a sister, Doris Knight Lorig, Albany, GA; a brother, Joe Byrd Knight (Carolyn), Hattiesburg, MS; eight grandchildren, Joey Walden (Brent), Jill Walden, Holly Burks (Brendan), Jordan Marlin (Kristi), Bettina Weisinger (Andy), Brittney Armstrong (Adam), Kevin Morris (Angel), and Kellie Rogero (Eddie); eleven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Extendicare, Hall 7, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Morris.
