Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, Rev. Adam Chancey, her nephew, Rev. Greg Summerlin, and Pastor Michael Senn officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be gathering at 180 Milligan Drive in Newton. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Newton Senior Center, 101 King St., Newton, AL 36352 or to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL 36303.

Mable "Marie" (Gray) Brackins, 86, a resident of Newton, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle in Dothan.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, Rev. Adam Chancey, her nephew, Rev. Greg Summerlin, and Pastor Michael Senn officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Marie was the daughter of the late Ernest Dow and Letha Mae Hornsby Gray of Geneva, AL. She was a 1955 graduate of Samson High school. She began her career at Newton Elementary School in the lunchroom. She retired from Conagra Poultry of Enterprise, AL and Dale Medical Center as a head cook in the Dietary Department. Her greatest love was cooking Thanksgiving meals. For over 30 years, she spent every Thanksgiving at her home cooking some of the best Thanksgiving meals in the Wiregrass. She was famous for her homemade doughnuts and 14-layer chocolate cakes.
Marie is preceded in death by her former husband, Charles Brackins, her sisters, Mavis Gray Lindsey, Avis Gray Summerlin, and Merlene Gray Wiggins, a half-sister, Allene Gray Young, and a nephew, Gade Mims.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Marie Chancey; her oldest sister, Maxine Gray Hagler; grandchildren, Adam (Ashley) Chancey, Michael (Jessica) Chancey Sr.; great grandchildren, Michael Chancey Jr., Nathaniel Byron Chancey, and Emma Marie Chancey; several nieces and nephews, great, great, great, and great, great, great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the Brackins/Floyd family who she loved dearly. Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandson, Michael Chancey, Sr., her great grandson, Michael Chancey, Jr., and her nephews, Ryan Wiggins, Alain Coutu, Harold Hagler, and Joey Floyd. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Roger Mims and Jerry Batchelor.
