Mrs. Mable Rowland Broome, age 85, of Eufaula, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021, peacefully at her home in Bullock County. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Clayton Baptist Church in Clayton, Alabama at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Josh Powell and Reverend Curtis Rich officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made in her memory to Bethel Cemetery Fund, c/o Sarah Nell Green, 11107 Hwy 29, Union Springs, Alabama 36089. Mrs. Broome was born, May 23, 1936, in Union Springs, Alabama, the daughter of Leonard Cope Thompson and Joesphine Shepherd Thompson. She was a caring, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who blessed everyone who knew her. She was known by her grandchildren as “Grammy” and great-grandchildren as “Mae-Mae”. She was a 1954 graduate of Inverness High School in Inverness, Alabama. She obtained a CNA degree from Sparks Technical College. Mrs. Broome worked at Van Heusen in Clayton until the factory’s closing and preceded to work for Southern Springs Health Care in Union Springs. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Louisville and First Baptist Church in Eufaula. Her hobbies included, square dancing, sewing, knitting, traveling, and shopping. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, William Edwin Rowland, Sr. and Walter E. Broome, Sr. and two sisters, Shirley Ann Thompson, and Betty Jo Wilks. She is survived by two sons, William E. “Shug” Rowland, Jr., Clayton, Virgil “Boe” Rowland, Clayton; two daughters, Nancy R. Stephenson (Mark), Prattville, Shirley R. Adams (Johnny), Union Springs; six grandchildren, Philip Stephenson, Laurel S. Henderson (Nick), Amelia Stephenson, Jessica Stephenson, Abby Adams, Leslie A. Harris (Riley); two great grandchildren, Olivia Harris, John Harris; and several nieces and nephews. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Francis Thompson, Bob Sewell, Rick Sewell, Philip Stephenson, Bob Warr, Casey Shepherd, Dr. Tommy Horne, and Mack Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Marshall Williams III, Sam Williams, Bobby Sewell, Allen Lane, Mike McCraney, and Lee Fenn. Glover Funeral Home of Clayton was entrusted with the arrangements.
