Having lived longer than she ever expected, Madgie Hazel Taylor of Daleville passed from this life to her eternal home on February 11, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Dothan and with family present. She was 95.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 15, 2016 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Daleville Chapel with Reverend Jim Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M.
Hazel was born in Vina, Alabama, to the late John and Hannah Scott Williams. At a young age her family moved to Marked Tree, Arkansas, where she remained until WWII began when she then moved to Memphis with her sisters to support the war manufacturing effort. After the war, she married a career Army soldier, Sherman Coyal Taylor, becoming a dedicated military wife and making a home for her growing family. Her life’s work became that of housewife and mother, serving as the glue that held her family together. She sacrificed, loved and supported her family through all her years. She loved to cook. Her banana pudding, fudge icing, cornbread, beef stew, and salmon patties were family favorites. She was a longtime member of Daleville Baptist Church, loved reading her Bible and tending to her yard and garden. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Thank you, Lord for our Mom. Her life was her family. We were truly blessed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sherman Coyal Taylor, and all nine of her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her children: Varene Gummersall, Cordova, Tenn.; Tommy Taylor, Merritt Island, Fla.; Bobby Taylor, Daleville; Carol Taylor, Dothan; and Patti (David) Livingston, Gainesville, Ga. Other surviving family members include nieces and nephews in Memphis and Biloxi. We also include PoSuc Richards, a special friend who has been part of the family for many years.
Her family extends a special thanks to Alacare Hospice, especially April and Tresa for their tender, comforting care of our mother, and for their sensitive and thoughtful presence.
