DOTHAN. . .Madiolan McGowan “Madie” Norton, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. She was 92.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Friday, September 30, 2022, in the Kinsey Baptist Church with Reverend Brad Hardy officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsey Baptist Church, 6745 Walden Drive, Kinsey, AL 36303.
Mrs. Norton was born and reared in Geneva County, near Hartford, daughter of the late Coy Lee McGowan and Voncile Lewis McGowan. She was a 1949 graduate of Geneva County High School in Hartford and moved to Dothan in 1951. Mrs. Norton was an active member of the Kinsey Baptist Church where she formerly served as Director of the XYZ Seniors and as teacher of the Faith Sunday School Class. In earlier years, Mrs. Norton was employed in the family business as Secretary of Norton’s Radio & T. V. in Headland and as store manager in the Dothan store. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce McGowan.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Bobby Ray Norton, two daughters, Debbie Norton Aman (Donnie), Headland; and Cindy Norton Medley, Dothan; a son, Bart Norton, Dothan; six sisters, Nadine Wilson, Clarice Creel and Betty Jean Saunders, all of Malvern; Brenda Grantham (Johnny), Dothan; Gloria Box (John), Slocomb; and Beverly Andrews (Randy), Dothan; a brother, Jerry McGowan, Esto, FL; five grandchildren, Ashley Bass (Kevin), Clay Aman, Jennifer Medley, Justin Medley and Emily Snyder (Ronnie), eight great-grandchildren, Trenton Medley, Nikolai Snyder, Cade Blankenship (Anabeth), Cody Blankenship (Alexa), Kyleigh Bass, Kinley Bass, Katlyn Miller (Tyler) and Cole Bass (Brianna) and seven great-great-grandchildren, Lizzy Blankenship, Harper Blankenship, Banks Blankenship, Oakley Miller, Hartlyn Miller, Presley Miller and Bailey Bass.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Clay Aman, Justin Medley, Cade Blankenship, Cody Blankenship, Kevin Bass and David Nolen.
