NEWVILLE. . Mae V. Bowen, a resident of Newville, died late Monday evening, March 19, 2018, in a Dothan Hospital. She was 88.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 21, 2018, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 1512 West Main St., Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mrs. Bowen was a native of Dale County, daughter of the late Cleady Long and Dora Smith Long. She moved to Henry County at an early age and had lived in Newville since 1967. Mrs. Bowen retired from West Point Stevens after thirty three years of employment. After her retirement she served as a foster grandparent at the Headland Elementary School for a number of years. She was a member of the Newville Baptist Church. Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Bowen and a son, Robert Earl Bowen.


            Surviving relatives include a son, Ronald Bowen, Pinckard; a sister, Martha Skipper, Pinckard; three grandchildren, Angie Taylor (Scotty), Frankie Bowen and Carol Rogers (Alun); two great-children, Jackson Bowen and Addison Rogers; a special niece, Suzy Kitts and her family, Newville.


            Serving as pallbearers will be Brennan Bowen, Alun Rogers, Frankie Bowen, Roy Kitts, Scotty Taylor and Chris Bowen.
