Mrs. Maggie Faye “Nana” Smith Owens of Samson, Alabama passed away Friday, September 14, 2012. She was 74.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, in the New Home Baptist Church with Rev. Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service time.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Ebenezer Baptist Church Youth Group in Columbia, AL.
Mrs. Owens was born January 19, 1938, in Walker County, Alabama to the late Thomas “Tommy” Theron and Mary Magdalene Edwards Smith. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Columbia. At the time of her death she was enrolled in the Baptist College of Florida pursuing a career in Christian counseling.
In addition to her parents her husband, Billy Ray Owens, a son, Jon Woodrow Owens, as well as two sisters, Dimple Jualine Smith and Betty Mae Patton all preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Catrett (Curtis), Ashford; four grandchildren: Travis Stewart, Ethan Pirtle, Tyler Owens and Kyrie Catrett; one brother, Billy Lee Smith, Atlanta; one sister, Georgie Smith Martin (Robert), Oakman, AL; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
