MAJ Charles David "Dave" Miller (US Army Ret), age 69, a resident of Headland, AL passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the First Baptist Church Headland with Dr. Cecil Sanders officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Headland Building Fund, 301 E. Church St., Headland, AL, 36345 or to FUR-Felines Under Rescue, P.O. Box 1788, Dothan, AL, 36302.
Mr. Miller was born December 17, 1946 in San Francisco, CA and spent the early part of his life in Jacksonville, FL. After graduating from high school in Jacksonville he attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years as an aviator and was a Vietnam War Veteran, retiring from the service in 1982. Later he owned and operated Home Improvement and Glass Company for several years and also taught at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. Dave served as President of the Lincoln Trail Homebuilders in 1995 and was an active member in Rotary. He retired in 2009 and moved to Headland in 2010. He was President of the EAA Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1358 from 2011-2014 and was a volunteer with Overflowing Ministries. He was a member of First Baptist Church Headland and in his spare time he enjoyed boating and flying one of 30 planes he owned during his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Miller; his brothers-in-law, Don (Diane) Mauldin, Durrell Mauldin, and Dellis Mauldin; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Leigh; nieces and nephews, Mark Carpenter, Melissa Mauldin, Heather (Bryan) Hatton, Andy (Amber) Mauldin, and Jennifer (Brandon) Leigh-Evans; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
