Maj. (Ret) Joe K. Parker of Samson passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021. He was 89. A private service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Finally Home, c/o Chase Bank, P.O. Box 732667, Dallas, TX 75373.


Mr. Parker was born in Dothan, AL on October 22, 1931, to the late Zollie and Ethel Smith Parker.  He graduated from Samson High School, Class of 1949, and later received a BS from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). He served in the US Air Force for twenty years and spent eighteen months in the Vietnam War.  He retired from the US Air Force.  Following his retirement, he was a cattleman for many years.  He was preceded in death by two siblings, Lt. Col. (Ret) Mike Parker, and Virginia Parker.


He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Marguerite Burleson Parker; son, Ronald Parker (Lisa D.) of Samson; two daughters, Carol Zepp (Randy) of Tallahassee, FL, and Virginia Meigs (James) of Gulf Shores, AL; eight grandchildren, Melanie Parker Grantham (Charlie) of Eagle River, AK, Julie Parker Majors (Bradley) of Samson, Derrick Parker of Dothan, Jeff Cook (Jessica) of Aurora, CO, David Cook of Saint Johns, FL, Justin Cook (Chelsea) of Aurora, CO, Stephen Meigs of Slidell, LA, Jennifer Meigs, of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren, Joe and Jackson Cook of Aurora, CO.
