Major James Edward Stone, Jr. (U.S. Army Ret.), a resident of Dothan passed away Saturday May 22, 2021 at Flowers Hospital. He was 87 years old.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Stone was born November 29, 1933 in Summit, MS to the late James Edward Sr and Birdie Barron Stone. He lived in Summit, MS in his earlier years where he was a graduate of Summit High School. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably for 21 years. During his military career he served 2 tours in Vietnam and received several awards and decorations including the Bronze Star and Silver Star. After proudly serving as a Major in the United States Army he began a career with the United States Postal Service for 20 years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing on Lake Eufaula, and watching University of Alabama football.
He is preceded by his parents James Edward Sr and Birdie Barron Stone, the mother of his children, Joyce Thames Stone; his 5 brothers; and his 2 sisters.
Mr. Stone is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Stone; his daughters, Kim (Ray) Lester, Dawn Drew, and Kelly Irish; his son, James Edward (Sindy) Stone III; his grandchildren, Joyce Adams, Larry Adams Jr., Carmen (Josh) Chapman, and Casey Boothe; his 3 sisters, Maurine Paulsen, Alice Stone, and Ginny Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
