Manion O'Neal Higdon

Manion O'Neal Higdon, affectionately known as Manion, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on July 17, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 1, 1944, in Sand Mountain, Alabama, he was the proud son of Manion LaFayette and Naomi Higdon, both of whom predeceased him.

Manion will be remembered as an irreplaceable member of his family and community. He leaves behind his beloved children, Regina Neal (Andrew), Joseph C. Higdon (Kim), and Stacy Higdon (Stephanie); his treasured grandchildren, Joshua, Wesley (Sara), and Seth Barnett, Brooke (Michael) Baker, and Shaina (Jason) Stansberry, Maverick Higdon; as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Michaela and Hagen Baker, Gage Jackson, and Cayne Higdon. He is also survived by his devoted siblings, Dianne (Alvin) Biddle, Sandra Moore, and Vanessa Higdon.

Manion's work ethic was a testament to his character. He spent a significant part of his career as a truck driver for Dixie Mobile Homes, where he displayed tireless dedication and determination. Also, with his bold spirit and commitment to service, Manion lent his expertise to FEMA, delivering mobile homes and offering assistance during the Hurricane Katrina crisis. This period of his career underscored his unstoppable commitment to helping others, even when the work was challenging. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he helped run the 12 Oaks Mobile Home Park.

A man of diverse interests, Manion had a particular affection for the iconic John Deere brand and had an impressive collection of various related items. He also had an affinity for antique tea pots, which he collected with the same gusto and passion. However, his greatest joy was his family. Through thick and thin, Manion's love for his family remained steadfast, providing a pillar of strength and unity.

Above all, Manion will be remembered for his selflessness. His generous spirit touched countless lives and attracted a community that considered him a role model. Guided by thoughtfulness, Manion consistently put the needs of others before his own. This was his truest strength, one that cemented his indelible legacy.

Manion will be sorely missed, but his influence will continue to be a beacon for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His life was a testimony to the power of love, resilience, dedication, and overwhelming generosity. We find comfort knowing that his legacy will live on in the good work of his children and the countless hearts he touched throughout his lifetime. Although his light on Earth may have dimmed, his spirit continues to shine bright in the hearts of all who knew him.
