HEADLAND. . .Mara Kaye Elliott, a resident of Headland, died Sunday, September 11, 2016, at her home. She was 26.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 14, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic (Diabetic Research), 4500 San Pueblo Road, South, Jacksonville, Florida 32224.
A lifelong resident of Headland, Mara Elliott was a 2008 graduate of Headland High School where she was a member of the band and served as the Drum Majorette in her Junior and Senior years. She received a B.S. Degree in Psychology from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Mara furthered her education at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland. Mara was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Roy and Wyllette Gamble, a great uncle, Kenny Gamble and great aunt, Shirley Lamb.
Surviving relatives include her mother, Michele Elliott, and step-father, Shawn Harrelson, and a sister, Kaylee Harrelson, all of Biloxi, MS; her grandmother, Marsha Gamble Elliott, and a brother, Mark Elliott, both of Headland; several cousins including special cousins, Kirstin Elliott, Opelika, AL; and Tracie Whitehead (Wesley), Pansey, AL; a great-aunt, Vera Carr (Danny), Headland; and a great-uncle, Steve Gamble (Marilyn), Laurens, SC; a great-great aunt, Kathy Folsom (Young), Dothan.
