Marcene Vera Erickson Taylor, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, and formerly Dothan, AL, died peacefully at her residence on December 4, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary with Dr. James B. Sanders, III officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until 10:45 am prior to the services. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Respite Care Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL, 36301.
Mrs. Taylor was born on March 25, 1934 in Huron, SD and lived her early life in Sioux City Falls, SD and Greely, CO. She later lived in Pomona, CA. In 1971, she and her family moved to Dothan, AL where she was employed as a teacher with the Dothan City School System. At the time of her retirement in 1996, she was working as a third-grade teacher at Montana Street Elementary School.
Marcene, outgoing and energetic, and dear to many, treasured spending time with her family and friends throughout each season of her life. Her caring nature and genuine interest in the well being of others left everyone who knew her feeling loved and known. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, William Don Taylor; her parents Eugene Erick Erickson and Vera Meyers Erickson; and siblings Sharon Jean Ivy, Judy Ann Jones, and Dennis Erickson.
Survivors include her children, Gregg William Taylor and his wife Paula of Greensboro, NC and Jill Taylor Goss and her husband John of Zachary, LA; her grandchildren, Ross Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Claytin Goss, and John Goss; her sister, Debra Kay Hribik of Corona, CA; and other extended family members.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Gregg Taylor, John Goss, Butch Taylor, Ross Taylor, and John Goss III.
