Gordon, as he was known to family and friends, was born at home on June 21, 1935, in Westville, Florida, the only child of the late Marcus Alexander and Mary Emily Ingalls Huggins. He lived his entire life in the Westville community, where he was doted on by his parents. He was born before electricity came to the community and fondly remembered plowing fields with a mule and family’s weekly wagon rides into Geneva on Saturdays to buy store goods.
Gordon was a devout Christian man and was kind to everyone he met. He was an active lifetime member of Poplar Head Church, devoting time to care for the grounds and cemetery. His family fondly remembers his many heart-felt blessings before every meal. As a child, he attended New Hope School and graduated from Ponce de Leon High School.
As an adult, Gordon worked at the Geneva Cotton Mill and as an auto mechanic, before embarking on a career in helicopter mechanics. After training as an aviation mechanic in Ozark, AL, he spent over 30 years employed at Ft. Rucker as a helicopter mechanic, where he spent many years as an inspector and flight mechanic. He told many stories of his time flying over the Alabama and Florida countryside. Gordon was a family man who cared for his elderly parents, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always stood ready to help family and friends in need.
Gordon was survived by three children, Allen Huggins of Clearwater, FL, Sherry Williams (Mark) of Destin, FL, and Linda Sims of Dothan, AL; five grandchildren, Meriah Park (Edward), Amanda Huggins, Marcus Williams, Kenneth Huggins, and Emily Sims; four great-grandchildren, Reed Park, Eli Park, Harper Williams and Ben Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Boswell family, Will and Lacy Boswell and their children, Lezlie, Jaxin, D.B. Boswell, the staff of Covenant Care Hospice and nurse Toni.
